EEID Beach Hike

Depart ~ 9:00AM from the beach stairs that connect the dorms to the lagoon.

Bring shorts, sun protection, water, snack, and sandals/shoes that can get wet (there can be tar on the beach)

Short Version (green): Distance 4 Miles RT.  Estimated time 1-2 hrs RT.  Go east along the ocean, past Campus Point, past Goleta Pier to the mouth of Goleta Slough.  At slough mouth, return. 

Medium Version (blue, limit 100 persons) : Distance 5.5 Miles RT. Estimated time 3 hrs. RT. Go west along the ocean toward Coal Oil Point (use stairs for street access if the tide is unpassable). At Coal Oil Point, meet a nature reserve docent who will guide you past the snowy plover breeding area.  Once past the breeding area, take an inland trail around Devereux Slough, back to Coal Oil Point, then head east along the bluffs to Del Playa Drive.  Walk through Isla Vista toward campus and stop for lunch or dine back at the dorms.

Long Version (magenta): Distance: 7 Miles one way.  Estimated time 3-4 hrs RT, plus lunch break.  Go east along the ocean, past Campus Point, past Goleta Pier to the mouth of Goleta Slough.  Continue 5 miles along beach, with occasional need to wade around obstacles.  End at Hendry’s Beach where you can relax, have a cocktail and eat lunch at the Boat House. You will want to shuttle back. But we will NOT have buses waiting for you. You can arrange to drop a car in the morning, or we will have a limited number of vehicles returning at 1PM, or, you can easily arrange an Uber back to campus.
